Every time someone says "it''s a jeep so deal with it" a cute, orphan puppy dies. This is a ridiculous notion floating around the heads of some jeep owners. It doesn''t take much thinking to see the shortcoming of this mindset. We wouldn''t even have jeeps if people applied this mindset to life. So when I read people who say "yeah these whistle, but it''s a jeep, deal with it," I slap my phone hoping they can feel it.

All that being said, they do whistle. But it''s not the earsplitting shriek of a banshee some seem to see it as. When driving with the doors off, which you must be doing since you''re using these, my ears just register it as a little more wind noise. I''m not one of those people who can tell you what "note" a lawnmower engine is sounding, but I''m a musician, so my ears work adequately.

Of course I would rather they not whistle. And I did try the silicone fix some people have suggested. Unfortunately I''m no virtuoso with a silicone tube, so I missed some spots and the mirrors still whistle. But it''s not a big enough deal to me to replace them. I might sling a little more silicone on them someday.

As to them folding in, I''ve not experienced this once. There are teeth in the hinge and the bracket (I have no idea if that''s what those parts are called), and a screw that you use to fasten them, so if they''re folding in from the wind, make them tighter.

They are a very good size, and while I definitely prefer the visibility of the stock mirrors, these do a fine job. Plus they''re really just to keep me street legal. There are no doors and no roof, so I usually just turn my head when I want to see behind me.

There are probably better mirrors out there. But for someone like me who lives in a small town and doesn''t want to drive an hour to buy mirrors, having these show up on my front door the next day was really great. I used them all summer and I''m not going out looking for anything new for next year.

I didn''t receive jack for this review. Even if I had, I''m too big of a fan of honesty to let some jerk manipulate my review by giving me free stuff. The review written above represents my honest, unfiltered opinion of the product.

I read every review and sat on buying these for a while as some of the reviews really made me reluctant to pull the trigger. I went ahead and decided to go for it and am very glad I did. They are a good product for the price. I read a review that said these are universal and as a result one mirror is angled up and the other side is down. That is not true... They are made so you can rotate the arms to get the angle you want. I also read reviews that said the mirrors are two low. Maybe on a TJ, but on my JK I installed them on the upper two Window bracket bolts and they actually sit a little higher than my stock mirrors. There are three things I read that are very true. You really have to crank down on the locking screw to keep the mirrors secured in place. This issue is minimal as I was able to hand tighten them sufficiently. The other two issues, and why I only gave them 4 stars is they whistle like crazy, and the passenger side mirror is not convex. They begin to whistle around 40 mph. However I have read somewhere to run electrical tape around the edges and it will stop it. I will give that a shot. As far as the passenger side mirror it is borderline usable as is. They both shake a little on the road but they are still usable. Overall, very nice to have mirrors when I have the doors off and for the price a very nice buy.

Update: To minimize the whistling (it does become annoying after awhile I tried running electrical tape around the edges. However, the look that produced was less than desirable. Instead I used clear silicone seal and filled in the little void on the backside of the rubber gasket and presto whistling is gone and it looks much better than using electrical tape.

They whistle and fold. Silicone did not fix the whistling. “The just deal with it, it’s a Jeep” crowd won’t care, because it isn’t that loud. The other downside of the silicone solution is that you can’t fold them in without busting the seal. This might not be a big deal to some people, but it’s much easier pull the Jeep into the garage when rain is coming than to put a tarp on. These mirrors stick out further than normal mirrors and would need to be folded in to fit - thus the silicone solution would be very tedious and expensive.

I find that no amount of tightening will keep these mirrors from folding at speeds over 50mph. The silicone solution ups this to about 60mph, which doesn’t help, since going above 50mph always means I’m about to do at least 70mph. There aren’t many roads where I live where the speed is in between for more than a few hundred feet. I tried many methods of tightening, but it always folds in at speed.

The final issue is rust. The hardware started rusting after about 6 months, and it has caused some streaking that I promptly clean to avoid staining. After 3 years, the rust and constant folding made the mirror only useful for me to essentially just comply with the law by having side views, even if I can’t use them without holding them out with my hand. The speed at which the driver side mirror folds is about 35 mph now, because when the passenger side folds in, it doesn’t get pushed back out until I stop (and therefore the rusty teeth haven’t been ground down).

I am going to give this 4 stars, because I like them. They are not perfect, but I like them.

I bought the full rectangular set black for my 98 TJ. I took the advice of the other poster that said to silicone the backside of the mirror and mine do not whistle, although I did it before I put them on, so I don''t know if they would have anyway. I just didn''t want to do the job twice.

Putting on the mirrors, they seem really cheap. The housings are plastic the washers are plastic. but once they are on they are pretty solid. They move pretty easily with my hands, so I figured they were going to move all over the place on the freeway, but surprisingly they stayed in place.

There is a plastic knob that holds the mirror and rod on, you tighten that by and and it seems like it doesn''t get tight enough because you can move the rod really easily with your hand, but I have been driving it back and forth to work and they have not moved on the freeway surprisingly enough. I figure if they did I would replace that know with an actual bolt and crank it down with a socket if necessary, but so far it has been solid.

Things I would suggest if possible. On the J/K they go on the top part of the windshield mount, but on the TJ they go on the bottom. Normally not an issue if you take your doors off, but if you don''t your passenger side mirror is worthless. I think if it were moved up to the top of the windshield mount, it would be more visible with the doors on.

I actually removed my door mirrors, They are bulky and do not look good in my opinion. These mirrors look more like the old CJ mirrors and are way better looking in my mind, so I took the stock ones off and run these. I have not had any issues so far.

They do vibrate a little, but are usable. I mean I am looking at them through a plastic window anyway. The doors if they open all of the way, do hit the mirrors, another problem that raising the mounts to the upper windshield mount would fix. I would just test it, but these mounts don''t fit up top without modification. I am not sure why the manufacture doesn''t mount them on the top bolts, but they do work.

BTW if you have limiting door straps that will fix the doors hitting the mirror issue.

So in th end, they are plastic and seem kind of cheap when you are putting them on, but if you take your time putting them on, they seem to do better than you think. I definitely like the looks of them better than the stock mirrors.

Occasionally I like to remove the doors on my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. Legally, I still need side mirrors. This Rugged Ridge mirror kit can be installed in a few minutes, and the mirror and mounting rod can be "quick disconnected" easily and stored in the garage when the doors are back on. When I open my doors with the mounting brackets installed, the doors swing far enough away from the vehicle''s a-pillar to avoid contact between the original mirrors and the new mounting bracket.

The mounting bracket has a foam pad on the side that makes contact with the vehicle, so you won''t be damaging your paint when installed.

If I were to make a recommendation, during installation, only remove one bolt at a time, and install the new bracket with one new bolt before removing the other bolt. Then, with the first bolt threaded but loose, remove the second bolt and replace it with the new bolt through the mounting bracket. This will help keep things inside the pillar from shifting around, potentially risking damage to the threads on the "internal" parts you''re bolting back together. I''m not sure what it was, but there appeared to be a metal piece inside my pillar that jiggled around a little bit when I had both bolts out during my first bracket installation. I used this method on the passenger side and installation went much smoother.

I was on the fence about which mirrors to order. I ended up going with the round textured mirrors and couldn''t be more happy. The texture matches my aftermarket bumpers and light bar bracket pretty close. I was concerned that the factory bolts would be to short with the light bar bracket and the mirror base. I was able to use the factory bolts although I wish they were just a little bit longer. I used a pair of channel locks to gain an extra half turn on the mirror base and they hold position very well at highway speeds which is the majority of my driving. There is a slight vibration in the mirrors which effects fine details like a LP# but doesn''t effect the overall side view while driving. There is also a slight whistling sound on the driver side when driving. It isn''t constant and I can''t tell if the passenger side does it. Overall I am very please with the mirrors and knowing about the two minor issues with the vibration and whistling I would still buy the mirros

Overall, these mirrors are decent, but in typical Rugged Ridge fashion they are just not quite as sturdy as I''d like...I keep buying their stuff because it ends up costing the least for what I need/want. Jeep parts are outrageously priced, so these are a good deal, but you''re getting what you relatively pay for.

    Pros:
    - easy installation, although I can''t figure out what the concaved washer is for. If I put it on top of the bracket, I can''t get it to clamp. If I don''t use it, only the bottom face of the bracket makes contact and keeps the mirror from rotating.
    - good price point
    - nice size on the square mirror
    - hold in place at highway speeds

    Cons:
    - flimsy back panel flexes when adjusting, need to loosen the ball screws to adjust easily. It''s gotta be the worlds thinnest sheet metal.
    - flimsy back panel allows the mirrors to vibrate quite a bit and make it difficult at times to see objects in the mirror

    Neutral:
    - whistle tone at speeds around 30, general air turbulence noise at highway speeds. This is neutral to me because I would imagine other manufacturers are similar less the whistle. I don''t expect RR or any other Jeep accessory manufacturer to do wind tunnel testing though to find the whistle tone speeds.
